New GT Warranty and Handover Scope

You are buying new gas turbines, and the warranty looks generous on the quote. But warranties are only as strong as their definitions, operating conditions and the evidence you can produce when something fails, and many buyers discover the gaps only after a claim is rejected.

A vague warranty or a weak handover file can leave you paying for repairs you thought were covered, arguing over operating conditions and losing months of output. That risk sits with you and your lenders unless you scope it carefully before signing.

USP&E as Your Guide to Warranties That Hold Up

We know the frustration of a rejected claim on equipment that is barely a year old. Since 2002 USP&E has built 150+ power stations and supplied about 25 000 MW, and our 400+ engineers and project managers prepare handover files that support warranty claims. We work under ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 systems with FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.

Start With Definitions, Not Durations

Start your warranty review with definitions, not durations. What counts as a defect? When does the warranty start: shipment, delivery, commissioning or commercial operation? What operating conditions, fuel specifications and maintenance practices must you follow? A long warranty with narrow definitions can be worth less than a shorter one with clear terms.

Check exclusions carefully: fuel quality, ambient conditions, cycling, operator error and third-party parts are common. Make sure your intended duty, including starts, load cycling and fuel, falls inside the warranted envelope, or negotiate changes before signing. It is far easier to widen the envelope during negotiation than to argue about it after a failure.

Settle Defect Liability, Performance Tests and Operating Conditions

Defect liability covers repair or replacement of faulty equipment within a period. Performance guarantees cover output and other agreed parameters, proven by tests under defined conditions. Agree the test procedures, correction curves, instrumentation and tolerances in the contract, so the test result is not open to interpretation.

Record operating conditions from day one: fuel analysis, ambient data, starts, trips, load profile and maintenance actions. If a defect appears, this record shows you operated within the warranted envelope. Without it, the burden of proof may shift to you. Store the record securely and back it up, because a lost log is as unhelpful as no log.

Build the Handover File as Warranty Evidence, and Plan for Growth

Your handover file is warranty evidence. It should include as-built drawings, test reports, settings, commissioning records, operating manuals, spares lists and training records. A remanufactured GE Frame 6B, used/new gas turbines and natural gas engines/stations used as bridges need their own warranty terms, often different from new units. Compile the file during commissioning, not months later, while the people and records are still on site.

Plan for modular FX-45 OCGT 45MW / CCGT 108MW 2×1 blocks, for 50 Hz and 60 Hz with capacity slots from 2028. Compute campuses running AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute depend on your gas turbine generators performing as warranted, so keep warranty management under one hyperscale EPC/O&M team.

Where USP&E Supports Your GT Commissioning Project

If your new GT commissioning programme is in the United States, your first conversations run through USP&E’s US offices in Colorado Springs (1755 Telstar Dr, Suite 300) and Knoxville (800 S Gay St, Suite 700). They keep you close to developers, utilities, gas suppliers and US equipment sources, and they can walk your site before anything ships.

Johannesburg (22 Kildoon Rd, Bryanston) runs engineering, protection studies and project controls for new gas turbines, commissioning spares and bridge units, and Cape Town (31 Brickfield Road, Woodstock) adds design and commissioning support. London (162-168 Regent Street) structures the contract, insurance and financing file your lenders will read, while Wuxi, China (No. 1, Ningzhou Road, Wuxi) follows up China supply chain and manufacturing.

For your new GT commissioning programme, US engineers can review warranty terms with your legal team and build the handover file during commissioning, while new gas turbines, commissioning spares and bridge units are documented to one standard. Regions served: USA | AFRICA | UK | UAE | CHINA. USP&E has guided projects in 85+ countries, with 35+ completed utility-scale projects and 18 live projects in 11 countries, and is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.

Proof from Recent GT Commissioning Projects

You want proof that USP&E delivers turbine plants with complete, defensible records. These projects show that standard.

  • USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers.
  • Perenco, Guatemala: USP&E delivered a 13.1 MW HFO/diesel modular power station under full EPC in under five months, on time and on budget. Read the case study.
  • NEOM, Saudi Arabia: USP&E supplied three zero-hour Siemens SGT-400 gas turbines as the single technical and commercial interface, and the client reported savings of over $10 million. Read the case study.

HowTo: Build the equipment and delivery path

Your 3-step plan: 1. Share your supplier quotes, warranty terms and intended duty under NDA. 2. Receive a warranty and handover review with recommended changes. 3. Commission, compile the handover file and support with accountable O&M.

  1. List every asset in scope, from new packages to a remanufactured GE Frame 6B or natural gas engines/stations, and the terms that apply to each.
  2. Define covered items, failure types, remedies, the start trigger, and treatment of repaired or replaced parts in separate clauses.
  3. Separate defect liability, acceptance performance testing, and owner operating conditions so each has its own evidence.
  4. Specify the handover baseline: commissioning results, vibration and temperature data, inspections, settings, and as-built drawings.
  5. Align warranty with O&M and availability commitments, and reserve interfaces for modular FX-45 OCGT 45MW / CCGT 108MW 2×1 blocks (50/60 Hz, capacity slots from 2028).
  6. Agree the claim route, response contacts, and record-keeping duties before final acceptance.

FAQ: New GT Warranty and Handover Scope

What should I check first in a new gas turbine warranty?

USP&E checks definitions first: what counts as a defect, when the warranty starts and which operating conditions, fuel specifications and maintenance practices apply. A long warranty with narrow definitions can be worth less than a shorter one with clear, practical terms.

What is the difference between defect liability and performance guarantees?

USP&E explains that defect liability covers repair or replacement of faulty equipment within a period, while performance guarantees cover output and other agreed parameters proven by tests. Test procedures, correction curves and tolerances should be fixed in the contract before signing.

Where are USP&E’s offices for US gas turbine warranty and commissioning work?

USP&E’s US offices in Colorado Springs and Knoxville handle turbine commissioning and warranty support, keeping you close to developers, utilities and US equipment sources. Johannesburg runs engineering, Cape Town adds commissioning support, London structures contracts and finance and Wuxi follows up China manufacturing.

Has USP&E delivered turbine projects with full handover before?

USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers. Public case studies include three zero-hour Siemens SGT-400 turbines for NEOM, which reported savings of over $10 million, and a 13.1 MW modular station in Guatemala.

Is USP&E a broker for new gas turbines?

USP&E is not a broker. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that engineers, supplies, installs, commissions and operates power plants, so the team building your handover file also understands exactly what evidence a successful warranty claim needs from you.

How fast can USP&E respond to a warranty review request?

USP&E can review supplier quotes, warranty terms and your intended duty as soon as you share them. Engineers highlight gaps in definitions, exclusions and test procedures first, and the timeline then depends on supplier negotiations, legal review and your contract schedule.

What belongs in a gas turbine handover file?

USP&E includes as-built drawings, test reports, settings, commissioning records, operating manuals, spares lists and training records in the handover file. Together they prove the plant was installed, tested and handed over correctly, which is the foundation of any warranty claim.

Why record operating conditions from the first day?

USP&E records fuel analysis, ambient data, starts, trips, load profile and maintenance actions from day one because they prove operation within the warranted envelope. Without that record, the burden of proof in a warranty dispute may shift to you as the operator.

Make Your Turbine Warranty Worth What You Paid For

Get warranty terms and handover right and your claims are clear, quick and successful. Get them wrong and you pay for repairs you thought were covered. USP&E will help you scope, document and defend every term.
